Hello Everyone! Today I went to my mum's museum. I learnt about the three most famous Russian writers; Aleksandr Pushkin, Leo Nikolay Tolstoy & Mikhail Sholokhov.
Aleksandr Pushkin Алекса́ндр Серге́евич Пу́шкин:
Pushkin was a noble, born in (1799-1837). On his father's side he was descended from an ancient noble family and on his mother's side he was a great-great-grandson of a black Abyssinian, Gannibal, who served under Peter the Great. Pushkin himself had black hair and swarthly complexion. In his childhood the future poet was entrusted to nursemaids, French tutors, and governesses. He learned Russian from household serfs and from his nanny, A,rina Rodionovna. Pushkin started to write poems from an early age. Pushkin married Natalya Goncharova in 1831, who was the most beautiful woman in Russia. Pushkin and his wife Natalya Goncharova, became regulars of court society. In 1837, while falling into greater and greater debt amidst rumors that his wife had started conducting an unknown affair, Pushkin challenged Georges d'Anthès ( a french noble) who had fallen in love with Natalya, to a duel. Pushkin was mortally wounded by a Duel Flint Pistol and died two days later.
Leo Nikolay Tolstoy Лев Никола́евич Толсто́й:
Leo Tolstoy was born at Yasnaya Polyana, in Tula Province, the fourth of five children. The title of Count had been conferred on his ancestor in the early 18th century by Peter the Great. His parents died when he was a child, and he was brought up by relatives. In 1844 Tolstoy started his studies of law and oriental languages at Kazan University, but he never took a degree. Dissatisfied with the standard of education, he returned in the middle of his studies back to Yasnaya Polyana, and then spent much of his time in Moscow and St. Petersburg. In 1847 Tolstoy was treated for venereal disease. After contracting heavy gambling debts, Tolstoy accompanied in 1851 his elder brother Nikolay to the Caucasus, and joined an artillery regiment. In the 1850s Tolstoy also began his literary career, publishing the autobiographical trilogy Childhood (1852), Boyhood (1854), and Youth (1857). Tolstoy is widely regarded as one of the greatest of all novelists, particularly noted for his masterpieces War and Peace and Anna Karenina; in their scope, breadth and realistic depiction of Russian life, the two books stand at the peak of realistic fiction. As a moral philosopher he was notable for his ideas on nonviolent resistance through his work The Kingdom of God is Within You.
Mikhail Sholokhov Михаи́л Алекса́ндрович Шо́лохов:
Sholokhov was born in the Kamenskaya region of Russia, in the "land of the Cossacks" - the Kruzhlinin hamlet, part of stanitsa Veshenskaya, the former Region of the Don Cossack Army. His father was a member of the lower middle class, at times a farmer, cattle trader, and miller. Sholokhov's mother came from Ukrainian peasant stock and was the widow of a Cossack. She was illiterate but learned to read and write in order to correspond with her son. Sholokhov attended schools in Kargin, Moscow, Boguchar, and Veshenskaya until 1918, when he joined the side of the revolutionaries in the Russian civil war. He was only 13 years old.
Sholokhov began writing at 17. The Birthmark, Sholokhov's first story, appeared when he was 19. In 1922 Sholokhov moved to Moscow to become a journalist, but he had to support himself through manual labour. He was a stonemason, and accountant from 1922 to 1924, but he also intermittently participated in writers. His first work to appear in print was the satirical article A Test (1922).
In 1924 Sholokhov returned to Veshenskaya and devoted himself entirely to writing. In the same year he married Maria Petrovna Gromoslavskaia; they had two daughters and two sons.
All these writers have now passed away, but their memories, wisdom & creative imagination is still left within us. Many may not know who these people are, but they were all treated with respect before or after their deaths.
